PEOPLE AND LANDSCAPE: European Landscape Convention in Practice.

The two days seminar is a discussion platform for sharing ideas and experiences related to implementation European Landscape Convention organised by Mendel University in collaboration with project partners.

The People and Landscape Seminar III. will take place
from 29th till 30th May 2014 in Multifunctional Centre in Lednice, Czech Republic
hosted by Mendel University and Palacky University.




Seminar is focused on discussion between experts, moderator and audience from different backgrounds in three discussions panels:

Landscape Planning and Management – Best Practice
Participation and European Landscape Convention
Education an European Landscape Convention


People and Landscape is a series of seminars organised by Mendel University and its partners to promote the ideas of European Landscape Convention in Czech Republic. People and Landscape I. and II. seminars were held in previous years focusing on topic of local activism and participation on spatial planning in Czech Republic.

  • academics and educators involved in teaching spatial planning, landscape architecture or related disciplines
  • members of non-governmental organisation involved in promoting ideas of European Landscape Convention
  • members of public offices concerned with implementation of European Landscape Convention

The conference will take place in Lednice, part of Lednice Valtice Area, a designed landscape comprising stunning overview of dominant landscape architecture styles from 17th till 20th century. The venue itself is new conference centre in Lednice, recently renovated horse stables of Liechtenstein castle – a unique piece of baroque architecture.

The seminar will be followed by commented field excursion for foreign participants, which will take place on Saturday 31st May 2014 in Lednice-Valtice Area.

Lednice is small town placed near borders of Czech, Austria and Slovakia, famous for castle and park build by Liechtenstein family. Nowadays Lednice, known as a cradle of Czech Horticultural Education provides space for campus of Horticultural faculty of Mendel University. How to get here?

The nearest airport is Vienna Schwechat (aprox. 100km from Lednice). Take bus No. 1187 from platform 7 to Wien Dorfelstrasse (Meidling Bahnhof), which leaves every half an hour. From Wien Meidling take EC train to Breclav (the first station behind borders), which leaves every two hours. Please note, that Wien Meidling is a temporary station for international trains, since the main international trainstation has been recently under construction. Please let organisers know about your planned arrival to Břeclav, since transport from Břeclav station will be arranged by cars.

Accommodation and Diet

Until end of March organisers offer booking for participants in hotel Miroslava Lednice. Booking for later registrations might not be available. The price of accomodation per one night for single and double room is 60€ and 85€. Please refer to for other options or ask the organisers for recommendation.

The costs of diet whole conference are 36 € for  (the price includes per day: 2 x coffeebreak: coffee, tea, cake / sandwich, 1 x lunch; and one social evening with dinner on Thursday 29th).
